Chitosanase and Candida

Chitosanase is an enzyme that can break down chitosan, a component of the cell walls of fungi such as Candida. Chitosanase has been studied for its potential to help reduce Candida overgrowth in several ways:

  1. Breaking down Candida cell walls: Chitosanase can break down the chitosan in the cell walls of Candida, which weakens the cells and makes them more vulnerable to the body's immune system and other antifungal agents.
  2. Reducing Candida biofilm formation: Candida can form biofilms, which are communities of microorganisms that can be resistant to conventional antifungal treatments. One study published in the Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology in 2015 found that chitosanase was effective in reducing the formation of Candida biofilms.
  3. Enhancing the effectiveness of antifungal agents: Chitosanase may enhance the effectiveness of other antifungal agents, such as fluconazole. A study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy in 2013 found that chitosanase increased the susceptibility of Candida cells to fluconazole.

Overall, chitosanase has potential as a natural antifungal agent that can help reduce Candida overgrowth by breaking down cell walls, reducing biofilm formation, and enhancing the effectiveness of other antifungal agents.

One of the key ingredients in our AST Floracor-GI is chitosanase.

AST Enzymes Floracor-GI is a dietary supplement that contains a blend of enzymes, probiotics, and prebiotics that are designed to support digestive health, including supporting a healthy balance of gut bacteria and reducing the overgrowth of fungi, such as Candida.

Here are some reasons why Floracor-GI, with its chitosanase content, may be particularly good for helping with Candida overgrowth:

  1. Chitosanase can break down Candida cell walls: As mentioned earlier, chitosanase can break down chitosan, a component of the cell walls of Candida, which weakens the cells and makes them more vulnerable to attack by the body's immune system or other antifungal agents.
  2. Floracor-GI contains additional enzymes and probiotics: In addition to chitosanase, Floracor-GI contains a blend of digestive enzymes that can help break down food and support healthy digestion. It also contains probiotics and prebiotics that can help restore a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which is important for overall digestive and immune health.
  3. Floracor-GI has been studied in relation to Candida overgrowth: While more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of Floracor-GI for treating Candida overgrowth in humans, one study published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology in 2019 found that a blend of enzymes similar to those found in Floracor-GI, including chitosanase, was effective in breaking down Candida biofilms in vitro. This suggests that Floracor-GI may be effective in supporting overall gut health and reducing Candida overgrowth.
